Type Locality and Naming

The type section is lies from Angjie to Xiala Mt., 4.5 km east of Yunzhug Township, Xianza (Shenzha) County, Tibet, and the reference section is from the south slope of Deriangma Mt. to Xiala Mt., 6 km northeast of Yunzhug. It was named by Lunzhujiacuo et al. in 1978.

Synonym: Yunzhug Fm, Yongzhugongshe Fm


Lithology and Thickness

Claystone to Sandstone and Clayey Limestone. Dominated by gray-green and gray-black shale, siltstone and fine-grained sandstone, intercalated with thin-bedded clayey limestone; thickness 737 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Barialongzhai Fm

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Sisuo Fm

Regional extent

Mainly distributed in the areas such as Yunzhug Township of Xianza, both flanks of the Tarma syncline and Mangco.

Fossils

Corals Rhopalolasma ryistonense, R. bradbournense, R. zhongguoense, Mirusophyllum pachyseptatum, M. breviseptatum, Barrandeophyllum choniukounense and Zaphrentites cf. shunnerensis; Brachiopods Balakhonia kokdscharensis, Chonetipustula ferganensis, Productus Productus and Fluctuaria xainzaensis; Ammonoids Goniatites cf. striatus kentuckiensis and Nuculoceras primitivus.
